Responsible action in our company

Menrad focuses on sustainability!

Sustainability is an important topic in eyewear, as it is in almost all aspects of life. The demand for responsible actions, such as the use of biodegradable materials or environmentally friendly production, is growing  for us as manufacturers and from the demand of consumers.

Accordingly, the first JOOP! Bio Acetate Eyewear Collection was launched for the Spring/Summer 2022 season. With a focus on sustainability, it features eight stylish prescription models in three colours each, made of materials that are biodegradable and thus have less impact on the environment during production as well as at the end of their lifetime.

But Menrad takes sustainability seriously as a multi-layered process and demonstrates conscious action in other steps as well: In eyewear manufacturing, production offcuts, surpluses and defective frames are collected, recycled and partly processed into new acetate plates. For metal models, only stainless steel and titanium are used, which are in themselves sustainable and recycled or recyclable materials. All POS material has been made from sustainable, certified material since the beginning of 2022. In addition, a gradual changeover to sustainable product equipment is under consideration. Environmentally friendly, recycled polybags are already being used in the shipping of eyewear for the JOOP! bio acetate collection, and in a further step for all Menrad brands. In addition, Menrad is currently working on its CO2 balance with the goal of being CO2 neutral in Germany by 2023.

Also in the future, Menrad wants to pay more attention to making a significant contribution to a sustainable future within our possibilities. This concerns all aspects of responsibility, economic, ecological and social.
